The Spring Anime season is finally here, and there is a lot of anime to discuss that are hitting the ground running. Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy is kicking off the season with some much-needed cheeky, energetic humor. The first episode wasted no time diving into its core premise of a powerful demon girl with a very specific appetite. This leads her to cross paths with a high school boy, as funny and chaotic as possible. Kanan is a high-ranking "Gourmet Devil." She hails from the demon realm and has grown bored with the tastes of the underworld. She descends to the human world and selects her target, Yoji Kyogi, a high school student. What should have been an easy meal for Kanan turns out to be an episode full of misunderstandings between the two of them. Kanan, despite her thousands of years of existence, has no experience with human emotions or romance. Yoji, on the other hand, is bold, straightforward, and instantly smitten.

The episode cleverly plays with the gap between Kanan's predatory demonic intentions and the very human (and very romantic) way her actions get interpreted. This leads to an unexpected "pact" of a different kind, forcing her into situations that leave her flustered, blushing, and questioning the newfound emotions that she is feeling. The comedy is what works in this episode; it heavily relies on the constant misunderstandings, and Kanan's adorable duality of a pure-hearted girl to a demonic entity works. The rapid shift from hunter-prey dynamics to something far more complicated and charming.
In terms of the animation. Studio Kai delivers clean, vibrant animation with expressive character designs that capture Kanan's dual nature beautifully, elegant and intimidating one moment, panicked the next moment. The pacing is also well done; the episode flies by, and it ends on a note that leaves you wanting more from this world. The show is silly fun in the best way. If you enjoy rom-coms with a strong cast that relies heavily on misunderstanding tropes and cliches with a supernatural twist, this might be for you.
Final Rating: Watch It- Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy first episode is a solid start that knows exactly what it wants to be.
