RetroCrush today announced that Hiromu Arakawa's Hyakusho Kizoku – The Farmer's Days Season 1 and Sota Sugahara's 500000000 Years Button are now streaming on the service, expanding its lineup of contemporary anime through a partnership with REMOW. 500000000 Years Button, the 2022 experimental anime from Sota Sugahara and Sota Studio, was adapted from his viral 1999 manga. The series explores a thought experiment: If pressing a button would subject you to 500 million years of isolation before erasing your memory and rewarding you with $7,500, would you press it? It also features surreal short stories and improvised segments from the cast.
To celebrate the release of 500000000 Years Button, creator and director Sota Sugahara shared the following message exclusively with RetroCrush viewers:
“Hello, RetroCrush viewers!
I’m Sota Sugahara, the creator and director of 500,000,000 Years Button.
What am I?
What is this world?
Why are we alive?
If you have ever stayed up late thinking about questions like that, this anime may be for you.
It starts with one simple button.
But be careful — if you press it in your mind while watching, your brain might glitch a little, and a tiny paradigm shift may happen.
This is a strange little comedy we created together with a wonderful cast and staff, built on years of experimenting with CG animation, improvisation, and playful storytelling.
Please enjoy this anime about time, memory, existence, and the mysterious feeling of being alive.
Thank you so much for watching!”
The series’ description is as follows:
Sota Sugahara's 500000000 Years Button finally gets a TV anime adaptation! A thought experiment that revolves around a button that gives you a million yen just by pressing it! But a shocking fate awaits those who push the button!

The second new addition from REMOW is Hyakusho Kizoku – The Farmer's Days Season 1, a short-form anime adapted from the autobiographical manga by Fullmetal Alchemist and Daemons of the Shadow Realm creator Hiromu Arakawa. Drawing on her years growing up on a Hokkaido farm, the series explores the realities of modern agriculture with warmth and humor.
The series’ description is as follows:
Hiromu Arakawa, before becoming a manga artist, spent seven years on her family's Hokkaido farm, enduring a tough life with daily challenges. She worked year-round, tending to cows and crops, and facing local wildlife. Her experiences reflect the hard realities of Japanese farming, yet also highlight the admirable and humorous resilience of those who work the land.
