Disaster Report and Raw Danger are two of the strangest, roughest, and most memorable survival games ever released on the PlayStation 2. In this retrospective, I look back at how Irem created a survival series where the environment itself became the enemy. I break down the production history, stories, gameplay systems, graphics, awkward controls, memorable characters, and the strange B movie energy that gives both games so much personality. These are not polished blockbusters. The frame rate struggles, the voice acting can be unintentionally hilarious, and the controls sometimes feel like another disaster waiting to happen. Yet underneath all of those problems are two incredibly ambitious games about ordinary people trying to survive earthquakes, floods, freezing weather, and collapsing cities. I also explain why Disaster Report and Raw Danger became cult classics, how they helped shape one of gaming’s most unusual survival franchises, and why they are still worth checking out in 2026.
